Summary: The outcome was successfully met by 84% of students.

Observations/Changes based on previous cycle (19-20): The success rate for the 2019-2020 year was 88%. The instructor added new assignments to provide an overview, identify important sociological figures, and key terms. The instructor also included Crash Course videos to assist students with their learning. The instructor also changed to a written assessment graded by a rubric rather than an objective test.

Observations/Changes based on current cycle (20-21): The success rate decreased by 4.5%. The instructor felt that an objective assessment would better determine students’ grasp of the important terminology. The determination was made to keep the written instrument as a practice assignment for students to receive feedback and prepare for a final objective assessment of the outcome.
SLO 2: The student will evaluate the impact of membership in the different social strata on the individuals in those strata and design proposals of ways to mitigate those differences.

Summary: The outcome was successfully met by 76% of the students.

Observations/Changes based on previous cycle (19-20): The success rate for 2019-2020 was 85%. The instructor used a written assessment graded by a rubric for students to demonstrate their evaluation of the purposes of social institutions and their impacts on societies.

Observations/Changes based on current cycle (20-21): The success rate decreased by 10.5%. Due to the nature of the SLO being assessed, students are better equipped to showcase this knowledge through an objective test. Therefore, the instructor is opting to use the previous written assessment as a learning activity and a place for students to receive feedback prior to taking an objective assessment on the outcome.
